You have probably never heard about the 2014 Fresno Golf Massacre. Until we became golf violence prevention advocates, neither had we. This is the single deadliest instance of golf violence in history.

On September 20th, 2014, nearly a thousand lives were lost to golf violence. Police still don’t know who the perpetrators of this deadly attack were, but they suspect there were multiple attackers. Among the carnage, police found a piece of the golf club used to brutally murder 920 chickens.

Fresno County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Curtice was quoted as saying, “people who will do this, it can definitely lead to other things.” While this attack was targeted at defenseless chickens, random attacks against animals are often precursors to random attacks on people.

We know the sheer quantity of lives that were lost that day is due to the fact the perpetrator(s) had access to a golf club. Who knows how many lives would have been saved if they didn’t have access to that deadly weapon?

#GolfZero means no animal deaths due to golf violence, too. We can prevent further bloodshed and loss of life with one simple step: banning golf - in every city, in every state.
