If you’ve been in a sports bar recently, chances are you’ve seen some golf on one of the televisions. That might give you the false impression that A) Golf is a sport and B) Golf is normal.

We’ve already extensively covered that golf is not a sport. Today we’re going to tackle the idea that golf is in any way normal.

First, lets use some numbers directly from the golf lobby - the National Golf Foundation. According to the NGF, 41.1 Million Americans age 6+ played golf (both on- and off-course) in 2022.

The nation’s population was 332,403,650 in 2022.

That’s just 12% of Americans who ‘play’ Golf (and don’t get us started on the idea of 6 year olds playing off the course…)

Let’s put that into perspective:

None of these things are ‘normal’.

It’s only recently become ‘normal’ for Americans to go to college - in fact, only about 40% do.

Owning guns (while far from ‘normal’ behavior) isstill something 32% of Americans insist on doing. Restricting guns has been a surprisingly successful project given how ‘normal’ that is.

Golf is not normal. Normal people do not golf.

Normal people would not wear this shirt.

Normal People Would Not Wear This Shirt

The golf lobby seems impossibly strong - but it’s just 12% of Americans. It happens to be the richest, whitest, and most powerful segment of Americans, but fortunately we live in a democracy where might of numbers makes right of government.

We, the 88% of normal Americans, will ban golf.
